Dulwich Hill

Dulwich Hill may be a suburban pocket of Sydney’s inner west, but it packs a surprising punch for travellers who dig local culture, leafy streets, and a cracking café scene. Perched on a ridge with glimpses of the city skyline, this former industrial quarter has morphed into a laid-back enclave of Victorian terraces, pocket parks, and a proudly multicultural food strip. It’s the kind of place you’d visit for a lazy brunch, a browse of indie boutiques, and a wander along the Cooks River cycleway – all without the tourist crowds.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Dulwich Hill is best enjoyed as a half-day detour from Sydney’s CBD – say, a morning or afternoon. Start with coffee and a stroll along Wardell Road, then hop on the light rail to neighbouring Marrickville for lunch. If you’re cycling, allow 2–3 hours for the Cooks River trail (you can easily extend it to Tempe or even the coast). There’s no need to stay overnight; the suburb works perfectly as a pit stop on a broader inner-west crawl.
