Discovery Bay feels like the Central Coast’s best-kept secret – a calm, crescent-shaped beach flanked by rocky headlands, with a sprinkling of tidal rock pools and a laid-back vibe that makes you want to linger. The water is glassy and protected, perfect for families, while the bushland backdrop adds a wild edge. It’s the kind of place where you can paddle, snorkel, or just sprawl on the sand and watch the clouds drift over the ocean.
Highlights & What to See
- Discovery Bay Beach – The main draw: a sheltered, north-facing beach with gentle waves, ideal for swimming and stand-up paddleboarding. Low tide reveals excellent rock pools at the southern end.
- Bouddi National Park walks – The nearby Bouddi Coastal Walk offers stunning clifftop views and secluded coves; the Putty Beach to Gerrin Point section is a must-do.
- Kayaking and snorkelling – The calm, clear waters around the headlands are prime for spotting fish, rays, and the occasional sea turtle.
- Bouddi Farm – A short drive inland, this historic site features Aboriginal engravings and a pioneer farmstead, offering a glimpse into the area’s layered past.
- Whale watching (seasonal) – From June to November, the headlands of Bouddi National Park provide excellent vantage points for spotting humpbacks migrating along the coast.
Suggested Time to Spend
You can easily fill a full day: spend the morning swimming and exploring the rock pools, then tackle a section of the Bouddi Coastal Walk in the afternoon. If you’re short on time, half a day is enough for a swim and a short stroll, but you’ll wish you had longer. For a relaxed pace, combine with a picnic lunch on the beach and a sunset walk.
