Bendalong is a sleepy coastal hamlet on the NSW South Coast, a world away from the crowds yet just a three-hour drive from Sydney. Its pristine, uncrowded beach and protected estuary make it a favourite among families, kayakers, and those who value peace over polish. There are no flashy resorts here — just a general store, a boat ramp, and a whole lot of nature.
Highlights & What to See
- Bendalong Beach — a long, patrolled beach with gentle waves perfect for swimming, bodyboarding, and long walks at sunrise.
- Bendalong Lagoon — a calm, shallow estuary ideal for kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and spotting black swans and pelicans.
- Murramarang National Park — just north, with coastal bushwalks, rock platforms, and eastern grey kangaroos lounging on the grass.
- Boat Harbour — a sheltered cove with a boat ramp and picnic tables, great for launching a tinny or casting a line.
- Point Upright — a short headland walk offering panoramic views of the coastline and, in season, migrating humpback whales.
Suggested Time to Spend
Bendalong is best enjoyed as a slow-paced weekend escape or a two- to three-night stay. Spend a full day exploring the beach and lagoon, and add a half-day for Murramarang National Park. If you're on a road trip, even an overnight stop will leave you refreshed — just don't expect to rush through.
