Just an hour's drive south of Sydney, Royal National Park is a sprawling coastal wilderness that feels a world away from the city. Established in 1879, it's the second-oldest national park on Earth, and its dramatic cliffs, secluded beaches, and lush rainforest trails have been luring bushwalkers and day-trippers for generations. This is where Sydneysiders come to breathe — and you should too.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most travellers carve out a full day for Royal National Park — enough to tackle a section of the Coastal Track, dip into a secluded beach, and enjoy a picnic. If you're short on time, a half-day from Sydney is still worthwhile: drive to Bundeena, walk to Wedding Cake Rock and back, then grab fish and chips at the Cronulla ferry wharf. For serious hikers, two days lets you complete the entire Coast Track with an overnight stay at North Era campground.
