Grand Canyon Track

Carved into the sandstone cliffs of the Blue Mountains, the Grand Canyon Track is a classic walk that lives up to its name. This 6.3 km loop descends into a lush, fern-filled gorge, passing under towering cliffs, beside trickling waterfalls, and through a cool, damp microclimate that feels a world away from the dry eucalypt forest above. It’s a sensory feast—the smell of wet earth, the sound of birdsong, and the sight of moss-covered boulders. For travellers seeking an immersive nature experience without a full-day commitment, this track offers the perfect dose of wilderness.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allow 3–4 hours for the full loop, including plenty of stops to admire the scenery and take photos. The track is moderately challenging with many steps, so wear sturdy shoes and bring water. Starting early (before 10 am) avoids the midday crowds and gives the best light for photography. If you’re short on time, you can walk the first section to the gorge floor and return the same way in about 2 hours.
