Giant Stairway

Carved into the sheer sandstone cliffs of the Jamison Valley, the Giant Stairway is a legendary walkway that plunges from the clifftop near Echo Point down into the rainforest below. This steep, sometimes dizzying descent of nearly 1,000 steps offers heart-pumping adventure and jaw-dropping views of the Three Sisters and the vast Blue Mountains wilderness. It's not for the faint of leg, but the reward – immersive nature and a true sense of accomplishment – is immense.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allow at least 2–3 hours for the round trip if you plan to descend the Giant Stairway and then climb back up. Many visitors prefer a one-way route: take the stairway down, walk the Federal Pass to the Scenic Railway, and ride back up (check the railway's schedule). This approach takes about 1.5–2 hours of walking plus the ride. Start early in the morning to avoid crowds and catch the soft light on the cliffs.
