Tooma is a tiny, historic settlement tucked into the upper reaches of the Snowy Mountains, where the Tooma River meets the Murray River. It's a gateway to wild alpine landscapes and a quiet base for exploring the western side of Kosciuszko National Park. With a population of barely a handful, Tooma offers genuine solitude, gold-rush history, and access to some of the most pristine wilderness in New South Wales.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Tooma is a quick stop rather than a destination. Spend an hour to stretch your legs, visit the dam and cemetery, and take photos. If you're into fishing or bushwalking, plan a half-day to explore the river and nearby trails. Most travellers pass through on the Khancoban–Tumbarumba route, so allow 20–30 minutes for a break. Overnight stays are limited – there are no commercial accommodations, only a basic campsite or the historic Tooma Hall (by arrangement).
