Just a 15-minute drive from Canberra’s city centre, Sutton feels a world away. This tiny village in the New South Wales Southern Tablelands is best known for its thriving food-and-wine scene, anchored by a celebrated long-table lunch experience. Surrounded by rolling green hills, hobby farms and historic homesteads, Sutton offers a relaxed, gourmet escape that fits neatly into a Canberra-region road trip.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Sutton is a half-day destination at most. Most visitors come for a long lunch at Sutton Estate (allow 3–4 hours) or a relaxed afternoon visiting the brewery and winery. If you’re self-driving, combine Sutton with a morning in Canberra and an afternoon in the nearby wine regions of Murrumbateman or Lake George. Overnight stays are limited – plan to return to Canberra or Yass for accommodation.
