Parque Nacional Da Serra Dos Orgaos

Rising like a colossal pipe organ from the misty coastal mountains of Rio de Janeiro state, Parque Nacional da Serra dos Órgãos offers some of Brazil's most dramatic hiking and rock climbing. Named for the serrated peaks that resemble organ pipes, this national park protects a lush swath of Atlantic rainforest, with trails that lead to vertiginous viewpoints, waterfalls, and the iconic Dedo de Deus (God's Finger) peak. It's a paradise for active travellers seeking a wild, less-crowded alternative to the nearby Tijuca Forest.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Dedicate at least two full days to explore the park properly. Day one can cover the shorter trails and waterfalls near the Teresópolis entrance, while day two is best for the longer Pedra do Sino hike (start before dawn). If you're a climber, add an extra day for technical routes on Dedo de Deus. Many visitors base themselves in Teresópolis (30 minutes away) and do day trips, but camping inside the park (at the Clube dos 3000 campsite) allows for a more immersive experience.
