Mount Kosciuszko National Park is Australia's highest national park, home to the continent's tallest peak, Mount Kosciuszko (2,228 m). This alpine wonderland in New South Wales offers a mix of snow-capped mountains in winter, wildflower-strewn meadows in summer, and crystal-clear glacial lakes year-round. It's a paradise for hikers, skiers, and nature lovers, with a network of well-maintained trails that lead through ancient snow gum forests and across windswept granite outcrops. The park's unique ecosystem includes the endangered mountain pygmy-possum and the striking snow daisies that bloom in summer.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend 2–3 days exploring the park. A full day is ideal for the Mount Kosciuszko summit walk (return from Thredbo takes about 4–5 hours, from Charlotte Pass about 6–8 hours). A second day can be spent on shorter walks like the Blue Lake loop or visiting Yarrangobilly Caves. If you're skiing in winter, plan for at least 3 days to enjoy Thredbo or Perisher's slopes. The park is easily combined with a self-drive itinerary from Canberra (2.5 hours) or Sydney (5 hours).
