Millaa Millaa is a tiny village in the heart of the Atherton Tablelands, famous for its namesake waterfall—one of the most photographed in Australia. The lush, green landscape is dotted with dairy farms, rolling hills, and rainforest pockets, offering a refreshing break from the coastal humidity. The town itself is sleepy, but the surrounding area packs a punch for nature lovers and road-trippers exploring Tropical North Queensland's hinterland.
Highlights & What to See
- Millaa Millaa Falls – A stunning 18-metre curtain waterfall plunging into a crystal-clear swimming hole. It's the iconic spot, perfect for a dip or a picnic. The surrounding rainforest is home to vibrant birdlife.
- Millaa Millaa Lookout – A short walk from the car park offers panoramic views over the Tablelands, with Mount Bartle Frere visible on clear days.
- Waterfall Circuit – A 12 km drive that takes in three other falls: Zillie Falls, Ellinjaa Falls, and Mungalli Falls. Each has its own character and swimming opportunities.
- Dairy farms and local produce – Stop at one of the farm gates for fresh milk, cheese, or ice cream. The region is known for its dairy heritage.
- Mungalli Creek Dairy – A working dairy farm offering tastings and a café with views over the valley. Try the award-winning cheeses.
