La Sagra is a secluded coastal hamlet on the New South Wales south coast, where the bush meets the sea in a tangle of spotted gum and turquoise water. This is a place for those who crave quiet, salty air and the simple rhythm of the tide. With a handful of holiday shacks and a long, empty beach, La Sagra feels like a secret you’ve stumbled upon — perfect for a slow-paced escape from the highway.
Highlights & What to See
- La Sagra Beach – A sweeping crescent of pale sand backed by low dunes and coastal scrub. Swim in the clear, protected waters or walk the length of the beach at low tide, when rock platforms reveal tide pools and the occasional octopus.
- Broulee Island Nature Reserve – Just south, this headland offers a short walking track with panoramic views of the coast, and a chance to spot sea eagles and migrating whales between May and November.
- Mossy Point – A five-minute drive north, this tiny settlement has a boat ramp, a calm inlet for kayaking, and a popular café where locals gather for flat whites and fish tacos.
- Eurobodalla Regional Botanic Garden – Ten minutes inland at Batemans Bay, this living museum of native plants features walking trails through forest, heath, and wetland, with excellent birdwatching and picnic spots.
Suggested Time to Spend
La Sagra itself is small — you can see the beach and take a swim in under an hour. But its appeal is as a base for a relaxed two- or three-day coastal break. Spend a day exploring the beaches and nature reserves between Broulee and Tomakin, and another day kayaking the Clyde River estuary or visiting the botanic garden. If you’re self-driving the south coast, La Sagra makes a peaceful overnight stop between Batemans Bay and Narooma.
Nearby Areas Worth Combining

- Mogo – A historic gold-mining village with a zoo, artisan shops, and a popular pub.
- Narooma – Thirty minutes south, with the famous Australia Rock, Montague Island, and the stunning Barunguba/Montague Island walking track.
