Tucked between the Eurobodalla National Park and the sparkling waters of the South Coast, Tomakin is a sleepy seaside hamlet that rewards travellers who slow down. With its calm river, family-friendly beaches and a palpable sense of old-school coastal Australia, this is the kind of place where you kick off your thongs and forget the time.
Highlights & What to See
- Tomakin Beach & Mossy Point – A long sweep of golden sand perfect for swimming, surfing and long walks. The southern end meets Mossy Point, a great spot for rock-hopping and tidal-pool exploration.
- Tomaga River – Paddle a kayak or SUP up the serene river; keep an eye out for pelicans, stingrays and the occasional dolphin. The river mouth is a safe swimming spot for kids.
- Eurobodalla National Park – Right on the doorstep, offering coastal walks, secluded beaches and birdwatching. The Bingie Dreaming walking track is a short, easy loop with Aboriginal cultural insights.
- Tomakin Community Market – Held on the second Saturday of each month (check local listings), this small market is perfect for local produce, crafts and a friendly chat.
- Mossy Point Café – The heart of the local food scene, serving excellent coffee, fresh brekkie and fish tacos with a view over the river.
Suggested Time to Spend
Tomakin is best enjoyed as a relaxed stop of one to two nights. Spend a full day alternating between beach and river, with a kayak hire and a picnic in the national park. If you’re passing through on a coastal road trip, a few hours for a swim and a coffee at Mossy Point Café is enough to soak up the vibe.
