Carmila

Carmila is a sleepy coastal hamlet on Queensland's Capricorn Coast, where the Bruce Highway meets the sea and life slows to a cane-train crawl. This is the kind of place you stop for a pie and a servo coffee, but stay for the empty beaches and big skies. The mangroves and mudflats are a haven for birdlife, and the local pub serves cold beer with a side of genuine country warmth.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Carmila is a stopover, not a destination. Spend 1–2 hours to stretch your legs, walk the beach, and grab a bite. If you're a keen birdwatcher or just need a quiet night, you could stay overnight at the pub's basic rooms or a nearby caravan park. It's a perfect 30-minute break on the drive between Rockhampton and Mackay.
