Tucked into the lush monsoon forest of Litchfield National Park, Buley Rockhole is a series of cascading rock pools that form a natural water park. The clear, cool water tumbles over sandstone ledges into a chain of plunge pools, creating an idyllic spot for swimming and relaxing. Unlike many waterholes, Buley is a series of pools connected by gentle cascades, so you can float from one to the next or find your own private nook. It's a favourite with locals and travellers alike, offering a refreshing break from the tropical heat and a chance to immerse yourself in the park's stunning landscape.
Highlights & What to See
- Swim in the rock pools – The main draw is the series of interconnected pools, perfect for a cooling dip. The water is crystal clear and the surrounding pandanus palms add a touch of wilderness.
- Explore the cascade – Walk along the rock ledges to discover deeper pools and smaller waterfalls. Each pool has its own character, from shallow sandy-bottomed spots to deeper plunge pools.
- Wildlife spotting – Keep an eye out for birds and monitor lizards that frequent the area. The monsoon forest canopy provides shade and a habitat for diverse species.
