Nestled on the northwest coast of Gran Canaria, Agaete is a tranquil fishing village and valley that feels a world away from the island's busy resorts. This is a place of dramatic cliffs, black-sand coves, lush banana plantations, and a laid-back pace of life that invites you to slow down. The town's whitewashed houses cluster around a pretty square, while the nearby port of Puerto de las Nieves offers seaside dining and a gateway to the wild and beautiful Tamadaba Natural Park. Agaete is also famous for its annual Fiesta de la Rama, a vibrant festival with roots in aboriginal traditions, and its exceptional coffee, grown in the fertile valley.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Agaete can be enjoyed as a day trip from Las Palmas or the southern resorts, but to fully appreciate its charm, plan to stay one or two nights. Spend a morning exploring the valley and coffee plantations, then head to Puerto de las Nieves for a long, lazy lunch. The afternoon is perfect for a hike in Tamadaba Natural Park or a swim at the natural pools. If you stay overnight, you'll catch the sunset over the Atlantic and have the trails almost to yourself the next day.
