Perched on the northwest coast of Gran Canaria, Galdar is a town steeped in Canarian history and blessed with volcanic landscapes. Known as the island's former capital, it offers a blend of pre-Hispanic archaeology, colonial architecture, and a relaxed local vibe. The surrounding countryside is dotted with banana plantations and dramatic cliffs, making it a rewarding stop for travellers interested in culture and nature.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan at least half a day to explore Galdar's main sights, starting with the Cueva Pintada (allow 1.5–2 hours). Add another hour for a stroll through the old town and a coffee in the plaza. If you want to hike in Barranco de Guayadeque or relax at Playa de Sardina, allocate a full day. The town works well as a morning or afternoon stop on a driving circuit of northern Gran Canaria.
