Pilbara Region
Welcome to the Pilbara, a land of ancient red earth, dramatic gorges, and some of the world's oldest rock formations. This rugged region in Western Australia's northwest is a treasure trove of Aboriginal rock art, striking national parks, and outback adventures. Prepare to be awed by its raw beauty and deep sense of timelessness.
Highlights & What to See
- Karijini National Park – Explore spectacular gorges like Hancock, Weano, and Joffre, where crystal-clear plunge pools invite daring swimmers. The contrast of red rock and blue water is unforgettable.

Suggested Time to Spend
Dedicate at least 5 to 7 days to explore the Pilbara properly. This allows for a few days in Karijini to hike multiple gorges, a day on the Burrup Peninsula to appreciate the rock art, and time to soak in the outback atmosphere. Self-driving is essential, with 4WD recommended for some tracks. The dry season (May to October) offers the most pleasant weather.
