Just a short drive from Alice Springs, Standley Chasm is a stunning geological fissure carved through the West MacDonnell Ranges. This narrow gap, with sheer walls rising 80 metres, is best experienced when the midday sun floods the chasm with light, illuminating the vibrant red and orange hues of the quartzite rock. It's a sacred site for the local Arrernte people, and the surrounding landscape offers a peaceful bushwalk through spinifex and ghost gums.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend about 1–2 hours here, which is plenty of time to walk to the chasm, take photos, and soak in the atmosphere. For a more relaxed visit, bring a picnic and linger an extra hour. As the chasm is at its photogenic best around midday, plan your arrival accordingly. If you're keen on longer walks, the nearby Larapinta Trail passes through the area, but for Standley Chasm itself, half a day is ample.
