Kings Creek Station is a working cattle station turned outback adventure base, offering an authentic taste of life on a 1,800-square-kilometre property at the western edge of the George Gill Range. You can sleep under a billion stars in a swag, ride a quad bike through spinifex country, or simply soak up the silence of the Red Centre. It's the closest accommodation to Kings Canyon and a perfect launchpad for exploring Watarrka National Park.
Highlights & What to See
- Quad-bike safaris – tear across red dirt tracks and dry creek beds with guides who know the land intimately; a thrilling way to cover ground and spot wildlife.
- Helicopter scenic flights – get a bird's-eye view of Kings Canyon, the George Gill Range, and the vast spinifex plains; sunrise flights are unforgettable.
- Camel rides – a slower pace lets you appreciate the subtle colours and textures of the desert; kids love it.
- Station tour – learn about sustainable cattle farming, mustering, and station life from the owners themselves.
- Bush tucker talks – sample wattleseed damper and quandong jam while hearing about Indigenous uses of desert plants.
- Kings Creek Walk – a short, easy walk from the nearby Kings Canyon Resort leads to a permanent waterhole at the base of the canyon walls; perfect for a cooling dip.
Suggested Time to Spend
Most travellers stay one or two nights. A single night lets you do a quad-bike tour or helicopter flight, plus the Kings Canyon Rim Walk the next morning. With two nights, you can add a camel ride, station tour, and a sunset drive to a lookout. The station is a great stopover between Uluru (3.5 hours south) and Alice Springs (4.5 hours north), so it fits neatly into a self-drive itinerary.
Nearby Areas Worth Combining

- Ernest Giles Road – a remote 4WD route that connects to the Lasseter Highway, offering a true outback adventure.
- Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park – 3.5 hours south, a must-do for first-time visitors to the Red Centre.
- Alice Springs – 4.5 hours north, the region's hub for culture, history, and the West MacDonnell Ranges.
- Palm Valley (Finke Gorge National Park) – about 2.5 hours east via the Mereenie Loop, a lush oasis of ancient cycads and red sandstone.
