Kennedy Ranges National Park

Rising abruptly from the red desert plains of Western Australia’s Gascoyne region, Kennedy Ranges National Park is a dramatic escarpment of layered sandstone that glows amber and ochre in the shifting light. This remote, off-the-beaten-track park rewards self-drive adventurers with ancient gorges, surprising pockets of permanent water, and a profound sense of isolation that defines the true Outback.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan for a full day to explore the main walks and viewpoints, but to truly absorb the solitude and night sky, camp overnight at one of the basic bush camps (no facilities). Two days allows time for the longer Mungada Ridge drive and a leisurely swim. The park is best visited between April and September; summer heat is extreme.
