Jurien Bay is a sleepy coastal town on Western Australia's Coral Coast, where turquoise waters meet white sandy beaches and a laid-back fishing-village vibe prevails. It's the perfect antidote to the Red Centre's desert heat — a place to cool off, spot sea lions, and soak up some of the state's most dazzling marine scenery.
Highlights & What to See
- Jurien Bay Jetty & Beach: Stroll the historic jetty for postcard-perfect views, then swim or kayak in the calm, gin-clear waters. Keep an eye out for bottlenose dolphins and sea lions that often cruise by.
- Sea Lion Tours: Join a guided tour to Sandy Cape or Fisherman's Island to see Australian sea lions basking on the sand — they're famously curious and will often swim right up to your boat.
- Pinnacles Desert (Nambung National Park): Just a 30-minute drive south, the otherworldly limestone pillars of the Pinnacles rise from golden sand dunes. Visit at sunset for a surreal, almost lunar landscape.
- Lesueur National Park: A wildflower hotspot with over 900 species of native plants. Spring (August–October) transforms the park into a riot of colour, and short walks offer sweeping views of the surrounding plains.
- Hangover Bay: A stunning crescent beach with turquoise water, perfect for a picnic or a snorkel. The bay is also a launch point for the famous Pinnacles Desert Drive.
Suggested Time to Spend
Jurien Bay works well as a two-night stopover. Spend your first day exploring the town's beaches and jetty, then take a morning sea lion tour. On day two, drive to the Pinnacles and Lesueur National Park — you can easily do both in a day if you start early. If you're self-driving the Coral Coast from Perth to Exmouth, Jurien Bay is an ideal first or second overnight break.
Nearby Areas Worth Combining

- Nambung National Park (The Pinnacles): Just 30 minutes south, this is the main drawcard — allow at least two hours to drive the loop and walk among the pinnacles.
- Stockyard Gully National Park: A hidden gem 45 minutes east, where you can walk through a limestone cave system with a torch — an adventurous detour for geology lovers.
- Lancelin: An hour south, famous for its massive white sand dunes where you can try sandboarding or quad biking. Great for an adrenaline fix before heading north.
- Wedge Island: A remote, unspoiled beach community 40 minutes south, perfect for off-road driving and solitude. Accessible only by 4WD.
- Perth: The state capital is a 2.5-hour drive south, making Jurien Bay an easy weekend getaway or a first stop on a Coral Coast road trip.
