Greenly Beach is a wild, remote stretch of sand on the Northern Territory’s west coast, far from the tourist trail. This is the Red Centre meets the Timor Sea – think rust-red cliffs, turquoise waters, and a sense of absolute solitude. It’s the kind of place you come to feel the raw power of the ocean and the desert in one breath.
Highlights & What to See
- Secluded shoreline: Miles of empty sand, perfect for long walks, beachcombing, and watching the sunset paint the cliffs in shades of ochre and amber.
- Fishing paradise: Cast a line for barramundi, threadfin salmon, and mangrove jack from the beach or rocks – just check local bag limits and croc safety.
- Daly River crossing: On the way, stop at the famed Daly River for barramundi fishing, river cruises, or a cold beer at the Daly River Pub.
- Wildlife spotting: Keep an eye out for sea eagles, ospreys, and, from the safety of your vehicle, saltwater crocodiles in the river mouths.
- Four-wheel-drive adventure: The unsealed road from the Stuart Highway to the beach is part of the experience – a true outback coastal drive.
Suggested Time to Spend
Plan at least half a day for the round-trip from the Stuart Highway, including time to explore the beach and have a picnic. If you’re camping or fishing, a full day or overnight stay is ideal. The drive itself is an adventure, so factor in stops along the way.
Nearby Areas Worth Combining
