Lyndhurst

Lyndhurst is a tiny, remote roadhouse settlement on the Stuart Highway in the Northern Territory, about 100 km north of Coober Pedy. It's a classic outback pit stop—dusty, quiet, and utterly dependent on the highway traffic. For travellers on the long haul between Alice Springs and Adelaide, Lyndhurst offers a welcome break, fuel, and a taste of life on the edge of the desert. The surrounding landscape is starkly beautiful, with red dirt plains, gibber stones, and distant mesas. Don't expect much more than a pub, a roadhouse, and a few buildings, but that's precisely its charm.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Lyndhurst is a stopover, not a destination. Plan to spend 30 minutes to an hour refuelling and stretching your legs. If you're keen on exploring the Oodnadatta Track or Farina, allow a half-day to a full day. Most travellers pass through on their way between Coober Pedy and Marla or Alice Springs.
