Boulia, a remote outback town in Queensland, is the gateway to the red-sand deserts and offers a genuine frontier experience. With a population of around 300, it's famous for the mysterious Min Min Light and the camel races that draw visitors from across the country. The wide, dusty streets and historic stone buildings evoke a bygone era of drovers and pioneers.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most travellers spend one night in Boulia, which is enough to visit the Min Min Encounter and take a stroll around town. If you're attending the camel races, plan for at least two nights. Boulia is a classic stop on the long drive between Mount Isa and Alice Springs, so it works well as a halfway point.
