Hermannsburg is a historic Lutheran mission settlement in the heart of the Northern Territory's MacDonnell Ranges, offering a fascinating glimpse into the region's Indigenous and colonial past. Established in 1877 by German missionaries, this red-dirt outpost is now a living museum where you can explore well-preserved sandstone buildings, learn about the famous Aboriginal artist Albert Namatjira, and soak up the stark beauty of the surrounding desert landscapes.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend two to three hours exploring the historic precinct and gallery, which is enough time to soak up the atmosphere and enjoy the tearoom. If you're keen on photography or want to take a walk along the Finke River, allow half a day. Hermannsburg is often combined with a drive along the Larapinta Drive or as a stop en route to Kings Canyon or Uluru.
