Deep in the South Australian outback, Vulkathunha Gammon Ranges National Park is a dramatic landscape of jagged quartzite ridges, deep gorges, and ancient rock formations. This remote park, jointly managed with the Adnyamathanha people, offers a raw wilderness experience far from crowds. The name 'Vulkathunha' means 'the place of many rocks' in the Adnyamathanha language—a fitting description for this rugged terrain.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan at least two full days to appreciate the park's highlights. Day one can cover the scenic drives and short walks in Brachina and Bunyeroo Gorges. Day two allows for a longer hike into Weetootla Gorge or Arkaroo Rock. Accommodation is limited within the park—camp at the Balcanoona or Chambers Creek campgrounds, or stay in Blinman or the nearby Flinders Ranges towns. A 4WD is essential for some tracks, especially after rain.
