Standley Chasm is a dramatic geological cleft in the West MacDonnell Ranges, about 50 kilometres west of Alice Springs. The sheer quartzite walls, coloured in fiery ochres and deep purples, are at their most spectacular when the midday sun pours directly into the chasm, illuminating the narrow passage. This is a place of profound stillness and ancient beauty, sacred to the local Arrernte people, and one of the most accessible yet awe-inspiring walks in the Red Centre.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend 1 to 1.5 hours, including the walk and time to linger in the chasm. If you want to combine it with a bushwalk or enjoy a meal at the kiosk, allow 2 hours. It's a perfect morning or late-afternoon stop on a day trip from Alice Springs or en route to Kings Canyon.
