Perched on the edge of the West MacDonnell Ranges, Tyler Pass rewards travellers with a sweeping panorama that feels like the very heart of the Red Centre. This natural lookout, accessed via a short scramble from the Finke Gorge 4WD track, offers an unfiltered view over the ancient Finke River valley – a landscape of rugged gorges, spinifex-covered hills, and distant ochre cliffs that change colour with the shifting light. It’s a place where the silence is profound, broken only by the wind and the call of a wedge-tailed eagle circling above.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend 30–60 minutes at the top of the pass, soaking in the views and taking photos. Factor in an extra 20 minutes for the short, steep walk from the car park (about 400m each way). If you’re visiting at sunrise or sunset, allow a little longer to watch the colours change. Tyler Pass is often combined with a day trip to Palm Valley, so you can easily spend half a day exploring the broader Finke Gorge National Park.
