Mount Anza

Mount Anza rises dramatically from the red desert of the Finke Gorge National Park, a striking sandstone monolith that draws hikers and photographers seeking solitude and sweeping views over Australia's ancient landscape. Its rugged summit offers a panoramic reward that few other lookouts in the Northern Territory can match, with the Finke River – one of the world's oldest river systems – snaking through the valley below.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Dedicate at least half a day to properly experience Mount Anza. The summit hike takes 3–4 hours round trip, including time for photos and rest stops. Start early morning to avoid the midday heat (October to March) and to catch the best light. If you're less keen on the climb, a shorter walk to the first lookout takes about 1 hour. Combine with a visit to the nearby Palm Valley for a full day of exploration in Finke Gorge National Park.
