Buley Rockhole is a series of crystal-clear rock pools linked by gentle cascades in Litchfield National Park. Surrounded by monsoon forest, it’s the perfect spot to cool off after exploring the park’s waterfalls. The pools are safe for swimming, with shallow areas for kids and deeper sections for a proper dip.
Highlights & What to See
- Swimming in the rock pools – The main draw is the chain of pools, each with its own character. Find a quiet spot away from the crowds for a serene experience.
- Waterfalls and cascades – The gentle flows between pools create natural jacuzzis. Float from one pool to the next for a lazy afternoon.
- Monsoon forest walk – A short trail from the carpark leads through lush vegetation, with the chance to spot birds and native plants.
- Picnic areas – Shaded tables near the pools make for a convenient lunch stop. Pack supplies as there are no kiosks.
Suggested Time to Spend
Most visitors spend 1–2 hours at Buley Rockhole, including swimming and a short walk. Combine it with a visit to nearby Florence Falls or Wangi Falls for a full day of swimming and hiking. Arrive early (before 10am) to secure parking and enjoy the pools with fewer people.
Nearby Areas Worth Combining
- Florence Falls – A stunning plunge pool and waterfall, just a 5-minute drive away. There’s a walking track to the base of the falls.
- Wangi Falls – The park’s largest waterfall, with a large swimming hole and a café (seasonal). Perfect for lunch and a swim.
- Tolmer Falls – A dramatic double waterfall best viewed from the lookout; swimming is not allowed here due to sensitive ecology.
- Litchfield National Park – The entire park offers more waterfalls, termite mounds, and 4WD tracks. Plan at least a full day to explore.
- Batchelor – A small town with accommodation and supplies, 20 minutes from the park entrance.
