Boggy Hole is a permanent waterhole on the Finke River deep within Finke Gorge National Park, about 130 km west of Alice Springs. This oasis in the red desert is a sacred site for the Arrernte people and a cherished swimming spot for locals and travellers alike. Surrounded by towering red cliffs and ghost gums, the waterhole offers a surreal and refreshing escape from the outback heat. Access is via a 4WD track that follows the dry riverbed, making the journey part of the adventure.

Plan a full day trip from Alice Springs, or better yet, combine Boggy Hole with Palm Valley and camp overnight. The 4WD drive from Palm Valley to Boggy Hole takes about 1–2 hours each way, depending on conditions. Spend a few hours swimming, relaxing, and exploring the area. If you’re camping, you’ll have time for a sunset walk and a sunrise swim — highly recommended.
