Edith Falls, part of the Nitmiluk National Park, is a stunning series of cascading waterfalls and plunge pools about 60km north of Katherine. The main waterfall plunges into a large, swimmable pool surrounded by pandanus and paperbark trees, offering a refreshing escape from the tropical heat. The area is rich in Jawoyn Aboriginal culture, and the walk to the upper pools provides insights into the landscape's significance. It's a must-visit for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone seeking a serene spot to cool off.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend 2–4 hours at Edith Falls, which allows time for a swim, a short walk, and a picnic. If you want to hike the Leliyn Trail and explore the upper pools, plan for a half-day (4–5 hours). Arrive early in the morning or late afternoon to avoid crowds and the midday heat, especially during the dry season (May–September). The falls are a popular stop on a self-drive trip between Darwin and Katherine.
