Pokolbin is the heart of the Hunter Valley wine region, a sun-drenched patchwork of vineyards, cellar doors, and gourmet food experiences just two hours north of Sydney. This is where you come to swirl, sniff, and savour – but also to hot-air balloon over the vine-striped hills at dawn or cycle through the bucolic landscape between tastings. The pace here is unhurried, the air smells of fermenting grapes and eucalyptus, and every turn reveals another postcard-perfect view.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan for at least two full days to appreciate Pokolbin properly. Day one: arrive, settle in, and do a relaxed afternoon of cellar-door tastings. Day two: book a morning balloon flight (it’s weather-dependent, so allow flexibility), then spend the afternoon exploring the gardens and foodie spots. If you’re short on time, a single whirlwind day can still cover three or four wineries and a long lunch – but you’ll want to stay longer.
