Huskisson is a sleepy seaside village on the southern edge of Jervis Bay, renowned for its impossibly white sand and crystal-clear turquoise waters. This is the gateway to some of New South Wales’ most stunning marine experiences, where you can kayak with dolphins, spot kangaroos on the beach at dawn, and snorkel over seagrass meadows. With a laid-back vibe, excellent seafood, and easy access to Booderee National Park, Huskisson is the perfect base for a few days of coastal bliss.
Highlights & What to See
- Hyams Beach – claim your spot on what’s often called the whitest sand in the world; the water is so clear you’ll see stingrays gliding beneath your kayak.
- Jervis Bay Marine Park – join a dolphin-watching cruise or hire a kayak to paddle alongside pods of bottlenose dolphins in the sheltered bay.
- Booderee National Park – just south of town, this Aboriginal-owned park offers rainforest walks, historic ruins, and the stunning Hole in the Wall rock formation.
- Huskisson Beach & Moona Moona Creek – perfect for families: calm swimming, paddleboarding, and a chance to see resident kangaroos lounging on the grass by the shore.
- Jervis Bay Maritime Museum – housed in a former naval depot, this small museum tells the story of the bay’s maritime history, including shipwrecks and pearling.
- Whale watching (June–November) – take a cruise from Huskisson to see humpbacks migrating along the coast; you’ll often see them breaching right in the bay.
Suggested Time to Spend
Give Huskisson at least two full days – one to explore the beaches and Booderee, another for a dolphin or whale-watching cruise. If you’re on a road trip from Sydney, you can see the highlights in a long day, but you’ll be sorry to rush. Three days lets you kayak, snorkel, and simply laze on the sand.
Nearby Areas Worth Combining
