Ulladulla is a classic South Coast fishing town where the ocean meets a laid-back lifestyle. With its working harbour, surf beaches, and proximity to pristine national parks, it’s a perfect stop on a Sydney-to-Melbourne road trip or a base for exploring the stunning coastline south of Sydney.
Highlights & What to See
- Ulladulla Harbour & Breakwater: Watch fishing boats unload their catch, visit the daily fish co-op, and stroll the breakwater for sweeping ocean views. The harbour is also the launch point for whale-watching cruises (June–November).
- Warden Head: A short walk from the harbour leads to a quiet headland with a historic lighthouse, rock platforms, and excellent whale-watching spots. Keep an eye out for dolphins.
- Mollymook Beach: Just north, this long stretch of sand is perfect for swimming, surfing, or a relaxed beach day. The northern end is patrolled and family-friendly.
- Millards Creek & Ulladulla Wildflower Reserve: A peaceful boardwalk through coastal bushland, great for birdwatching and spotting wildflowers in spring.
- Bomaderry Creek Aboriginal Area: A short drive inland offers walking trails through a sandstone gorge with ancient Aboriginal rock art and engravings.
Suggested Time to Spend
One to two nights is ideal. Use the first day to explore the harbour and beaches, then head into nearby national parks or drive south to Batemans Bay. If you’re on a road trip, a quick stop of a few hours to grab fresh fish and walk the breakwater is still worthwhile.
