Sydney Town Hall is a grand Victorian building in the heart of the city, a masterpiece of 19th-century architecture that has been the civic heart of Sydney since the 1880s. Its ornate sandstone facade, clock tower, and opulent interiors—including the majestic Centennial Hall with its enormous pipe organ—make it a must-see for architecture and history buffs. Even if you don't step inside, the building dominates the southern end of George Street and sets a stately tone for the surrounding area.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Set aside about 1 to 1.5 hours for a self-guided visit or a guided tour (offered on select days). If you're attending a concert or event, budget extra time to soak in the atmosphere. The Town Hall is best combined with a stroll through nearby Hyde Park or a visit to the Queen Victoria Building, which is just across the road.
