Sea Lock Rocks is a dramatic coastal headland on the southern edge of Port Macquarie, where the Hastings River meets the Tasman Sea. The name refers to the natural rock formations that resemble a lock system, sculpted by millennia of wave action. This wild and windswept spot offers breathtaking ocean views, a sense of raw nature, and a glimpse into the area's convict past — the nearby Sea Lock was built by convicts in the 1820s to improve river navigation. It's a favourite for photographers, walkers, and anyone craving a dose of coastal solitude.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Allow 1–2 hours to fully appreciate Sea Lock Rocks. Start with a walk around the historic lock and interpretive displays (30 minutes), then follow the coastal track to the main rock platform (30 minutes each way). Add extra time for photography or a picnic. The site is best visited at low tide when the rock pools are exposed and the walking is easier. Combine it with a morning or afternoon at nearby Town Beach or the Port Macquarie Coastal Walk for a half-day outing.
