Perched on a dramatic headland overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Nambucca Heads Golf Club offers one of the most scenic rounds of golf on the NSW North Coast. The 18-hole course weaves through coastal heath and eucalypt forest, with sweeping views from nearly every hole. Even if you don't play, the clubhouse verandah is a prime spot for a cold beer and whale-watching during migration season (June–November).
Highlights & What to See
- Ocean-view fairways: The back nine in particular delivers jaw-dropping clifftop holes where the Pacific stretches to the horizon – bring a camera for the par-3 12th.
- Clubhouse panorama: The deck is a local favourite for sunset drinks; the bistro serves hearty pub fare and seafood, with kangaroos often grazing on the fairways below.
- Nambucca Heads Island: A short walk from the course, this rocky headland offers coastal walking tracks and a lookout over the Nambucca River mouth.
- V-Wall: The town's iconic breakwater, painted with murals and messages by visitors – a quirky photo stop just minutes away.
- Whale watching: The headland position makes the clubhouse and adjacent Lookout a prime spot for spotting humpbacks on their annual migration.
Suggested Time to Spend
Allow half a day for a round of golf (around 4 hours) plus time for a relaxed lunch or drinks on the deck. If you're not playing, 30 minutes to an hour is enough to soak up the views and snap photos. Combine with a morning walk on the headland or an afternoon exploring the town's beaches and riverfront.
