Timbertown

Step into a living-history museum that celebrates the rugged heritage of Australia’s timber industry. Timbertown, just outside Wauchope near Port Macquarie, is a re-created 1880s logging settlement where the scent of fresh sawdust mingles with the clatter of a steam train. It’s part theme park, part open-air museum, and a thoroughly engaging way to spend a few hours – especially if you’re travelling with kids or have a soft spot for heritage railways.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Set aside at least half a day (three to four hours) to experience the train ride, sawmill demo, and wander through the village. Arrive by mid-morning to catch the first train and avoid the midday crowds. If you’re a train buff or have young children who want to ride the train multiple times, you could easily stretch it to a full day – pack a picnic or eat at the on-site café.
