Sea Acres Rainforest Centre
Sea Acres Rainforest Centre is a sanctuary of ancient coastal rainforest just minutes from Port Macquarie's town centre. This protected pocket of subtropical jungle is one of the last remnants of its kind on the NSW coast, offering a mesmerising boardwalk through towering palms, giant ferns and strangler figs. It’s a must-do for nature lovers and a serene counterpoint to the region’s beaches.
Highlights & What to See
- Rainforest Boardwalk – A 1.3km elevated loop that winds through the canopy, with interpretive signs revealing the ecology and Aboriginal uses of the forest.
- Guided Tours – Join a ranger-led walk to spot birdlife, learn about medicinal plants and hear Dreamtime stories that connect the forest to the local Birpai people.
- Visitor Centre & Café – Interactive displays on rainforest ecology and a lovely café serving local produce, perfect for a post-walk coffee.
- Wildlife Spotting – Keep an eye out for crimson rosellas, brush turkeys, and if you’re lucky, a lace monitor or pademelon.
- Night Walks – Occasional evening tours reveal the forest’s nocturnal side, with possums, owls and glowing fungi.
Suggested Time to Spend
Allow 1–2 hours to walk the boardwalk at a leisurely pace and absorb the information in the visitor centre. Combine it with a half-day exploring Port Macquarie’s coastal walks or beaches for a balanced day. The centre is compact but rich in detail, so you won’t need a full day here unless you’re a dedicated botanist.
