Echo Point

Perched on the headland where the Hastings River meets the Tasman Sea, Echo Point is Port Macquarie's most dramatic coastal lookout. The constant roar of waves crashing against the rocky cliffs below lives up to its name — on windy days, the sound truly echoes. This is the place to feel the raw power of the Pacific and watch humpback whales breach during their annual migration (June–November). A short, easy walk from the town centre, it's an essential stop for any coastal itinerary.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan for 30 minutes to an hour if you're just taking in the lookout and snapping photos. If you're combining it with the full coastal walk from Town Beach (which also passes the historic Port Macquarie Museum and the iconic Hastings River), allow 1.5–2 hours. It's an ideal breakfast or sunset stop — pack a takeaway coffee from a nearby café and sit on one of the benches to soak in the atmosphere.
