Perched on the edge of the Great Escarpment in northern New South Wales, Dorrigo is a lush mountain hideaway that feels a world away from the coast. This cool-climate village is the gateway to the magnificent Dorrigo National Park, part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area. With its misty waterfalls, ancient Antarctic beech trees, and vibrant local produce, Dorrigo rewards travellers who take the winding road up from the Pacific Highway with genuine wilderness and a relaxed high-country vibe.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Dedicate at least a full day to Dorrigo to explore the national park’s walks and waterfalls. If you’re self-driving the Waterfall Way, an overnight stay allows you to experience the rainforest at dawn or dusk, when birdlife is most active and the mist rolls through the valleys. Two days gives you time to also visit nearby reserves like New England National Park or simply soak up the mountain atmosphere from a local café.
