Sea Cliff Bridge is one of New South Wales' most spectacular coastal drives, a 665-metre cantilevered bridge that clings to the dramatic Illawarra escarpment. Opened in 2005 to bypass a notoriously unstable stretch of the old Lawrence Hargrave Drive, the bridge offers uninterrupted views of the Pacific Ocean, lush rainforest-clad cliffs, and the rugged coastline south of Sydney. It's a must-stop on any road trip between Sydney and the South Coast, and its pedestrian walkway makes it perfect for a leisurely stroll or photo stop.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend 20–30 minutes walking the bridge and snapping photos. If you're doing a self-drive itinerary, factor in an extra 30–60 minutes to explore the nearby beaches or walk the short coastal track to the old coal mine ruins at Coalcliff. The bridge is often combined with a stop at the nearby Bald Hill lookout for hang-gliding views, or a lunch break at the Scarborough Hotel. For a more immersive experience, consider a half-day visit that includes a walk in the nearby Illawarra Escarpment State Conservation Area.
