Perched on the edge of the Great Dividing Range, Coolah Tops National Park is a serene high-altitude wilderness that feels a world away from the Hunter Valley’s vineyards. This park is a haven for hikers, birdwatchers, and anyone seeking solitude among ancient forests and dramatic escarpments. With cool, crisp air and sweeping views over the Liverpool Plains, it’s a refreshing detour for nature lovers exploring the region.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors can experience the park’s highlights in a long day trip from the Hunter Valley, but staying overnight at one of the basic campsites (no facilities) allows you to truly soak in the tranquillity. If you’re short on time, focus on the Breadknife walk and the main lookout – both can be done in two to three hours. For a more immersive experience, plan a full day to explore a couple of trails and enjoy a picnic among the eucalypts.
