Ballina is a relaxed coastal town at the mouth of the Richmond River, where subtropical rainforest meets golden beaches. It’s a classic NSW north-coast destination, with a laid-back fishing-village vibe, excellent seafood, and a strong surfing culture. The town is also the gateway to the nearby Byron Bay hinterland, making it a practical base for exploring the region without the crowds.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Ballina is best enjoyed over two nights and one full day. Use the first afternoon to stroll the coastal walk and grab fish and chips at the riverfront. The next day, spend the morning at the museum and the afternoon surfing or kayaking on the Richmond River. If you’re short on time, a half-day stop is enough for the main sights, but you’ll miss the relaxed rhythm of the town.
