Wyrrabalong National Park
Just north of the Central Coast’s bustling suburbs, Wyrrabalong National Park offers a serene escape into coastal bushland and untouched beaches. This narrow park hugs the shoreline between The Entrance and Norah Head, protecting one of the last remaining stands of littoral rainforest in the region. With easy walking trails, excellent birdwatching, and secluded swimming spots, it’s a perfect half-day detour for nature lovers exploring the Central Coast.
Highlights & What to See
- Coastal Circuit Track – A 4.5 km loop that winds through paperbark swamps, she-oak groves, and open heath, offering sweeping ocean views and a chance to spot wallabies at dawn or dusk.
- Bateau Bay Beach – A patrolled, family-friendly beach with calm waters and golden sand, backed by the park’s shady picnic areas and barbecues.
- Littoral Rainforest Walk – A short boardwalk through a rare coastal rainforest, where you can see cabbage tree palms, bangalay gums, and hear the calls of bell miners and wonga pigeons.
- Norah Head Lighthouse – Perched on the park’s northern edge, this historic lighthouse (1898) offers guided tours and panoramic views from the headland.
- Birdwatching – The park is a haven for birdlife, including white-bellied sea eagles, sooty oystercatchers, and the elusive powerful owl.
Suggested Time to Spend
Plan for at least 2–3 hours to walk the main tracks and enjoy a beach break. If you want to include a lighthouse tour or a longer swim, allow a half-day. The park is compact, so it’s easy to combine with other Central Coast attractions in a single day.
