Standley Chasm is a dramatic, narrow gorge carved through ancient sandstone in the West MacDonnell Ranges, about 50 kilometres west of Alice Springs. The sheer walls rise up to 80 metres, creating a stunning natural corridor that is especially photogenic when the midday sun illuminates the red rock. It's a must-do for anyone exploring the Red Centre.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Most visitors spend 1–2 hours here, which includes the easy 20-minute walk to the chasm and back, plus time to take photos and explore the short side trails. For the best light, aim to arrive around midday when the sun is directly overhead, illuminating the chasm's interior. Combine it with a half-day trip from Alice Springs or a stop on the way to Glen Helen Gorge.
