The Riverina is a sprawling agricultural and wine region in southern New South Wales, defined by the Murrumbidgee and Murray Rivers. It's a land of golden plains, historic river towns, and world-class cool-climate wines—think shiraz and riesling. The pace is unhurried, the landscapes big-skied, and the food scene rooted in paddock-to-plate produce. For travellers, it's a rewarding detour off the Hume Highway or a destination in its own right for wine touring, river paddling, and exploring Australia's inland history.

Highlights & What to See

Suggested Time to Spend

Plan at least 3–4 days to properly explore the Riverina. Base yourself in Wagga Wagga or Griffith and take day trips to nearby towns and wineries. A longer week allows for a leisurely loop that includes the Murray River towns and a detour to the Snowy Mountains. The region is best visited in autumn (March–May) for harvest and mild weather, or spring (September–November) for wildflowers and green landscapes.
