Narrabeen is a laid-back coastal suburb on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, beloved by surfers, swimmers, and nature lovers. Its long, golden beach is split by a rocky headland into North and South Narrabeen, and the adjacent Narrabeen Lagoon offers calm waters for kayaking and paddleboarding. The area has a relaxed, community feel with a string of excellent cafés and takeaways along the main strip.
Highlights & What to See
- Narrabeen Beach: A classic Sydney surf beach with consistent waves, patrolled swimming areas, and a scenic coastal walk linking to Collaroy.
- Narrabeen Lagoon: A large, shallow lagoon perfect for kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and birdwatching. The 8.4 km Narrabeen Lagoon Trail circles the water on a flat, shared path.
- Narrabeen Lakeside Walk: A peaceful stroll along the lagoon’s edge, passing through bushland and wetlands with abundant birdlife.
- Berry Reserve: A grassy park on the lagoon’s southern shore with picnic tables, barbecues, and a children’s playground.
- Surfing at North Narrabeen: A popular break for experienced surfers, especially when a southerly swell is running.
Suggested Time to Spend
Most visitors spend half a day to a full day at Narrabeen. Combine a morning swim or surf with a café breakfast, then hire a kayak or SUP on the lagoon for the afternoon. If you’re doing the full lagoon walk, allow 2–3 hours. For a relaxed beach day, plan for 4–6 hours including lunch and a walk.
